Job brief

The Simulation Center and OSCE Center Technician is responsible for the technical preparation, operation and maintenance of simulation equipment, manikins, practical skills training manikins and audio-visual (AV) recording systems used within the clinical skills training and Objectively Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE). This position supports academic staff, standardized patients and students to ensure all simulation scenarios and OSCE stations run smoothly, safely and according to the established schedule. The Technician works closely with the Simulation Center Manager, academic staff and administrative staff to prepare, conduct and evaluate training and assessment sessions and return equipment and workspaces to their initial state after sessions.

Key Responsibilities

Simulation equipment and manikin management

For planned simulation and practical skills training sessions, prepare, calibrate, operate and troubleshoot manikins and practical skills training equipment. Regular maintenance, cleaning and minor repairs of simulation equipment; coordinate with manufacturers or suppliers for services and repairs that cannot be performed on-site. Prepare and conduct simulation scenarios using simulation software, adjusting physiological parameters according to instructions from academic staff. Keep records of consumables, phantom materials and spare parts inventories and submit replenishment requests as needed. Assist academic staff in developing, testing and rehearsing scenarios before sessions.

Audio-visual and recording systems

• Operation and technical maintenance of AV recording and debriefing systems (cameras, microphones, control room software) used for simulation and OSCE session recording and subsequent review, as needed, in coordination with the IT department.

• Testing video/audio signals before sessions; ensuring proper titling, storage, and availability of recordings for debriefing and subsequent review.

• Monitoring AV and network connectivity issues during sessions and rapid communication with relevant departments regarding problems.

OSCE Administration and Logistics

• Preparation and setup of OSCE stations, including equipment, props, signage, and station materials according to exam plans.

• Coordination of OSCE circuit exam timing and participant movement, including management of call/timer systems and facilitating smooth candidate movement between stations.

• Assistance with planning, instructing, and coordinating standardized patients (SPs) and examiners on exam day.

• Support for distribution and collection of assessment sheets, online checklists, and other assessment materials, maintaining confidentiality of exam content.

• Returning stations to their initial state and replenishing supplies between exam groups.

General and Administrative Duties

• Ensuring the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the Simulation and OSCE Center.

• Supporting scheduling and room reservation processes for simulation and OSCE activities within academic programs.

• Maintaining accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance logs, and session proceedings.

• Providing initial instruction and technical consultation to center users, including academic staff, students, and employees.

• Performing other related duties as assigned by the Simulation Center Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

• At least a Bachelor's degree or diploma in relevant/related fields such as Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Health Sciences, Nursing, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Preference will be given to those with a long-term perspective on employment and motivation in the field of education.

Experience

• Previous experience working with medical simulation equipment, clinical skills laboratories, or AV/IT systems is desirable (though not mandatory); relevant training will be provided by the employer.

• Experience in technical support in healthcare, laboratory, or educational institutions will be considered an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

• Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with a willingness to learn.

• Ability to work with computers, AV equipment, and simulation software; general technical problem diagnosis and troubleshooting skills.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing exam processes and confidentiality issues.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills for working with academic staff, students, and standardized patients.

• Ability to work under time constraints and manage multiple simulation or exam sessions in one day.

• Ability to lift and move equipment, as well as stand or move around the center for extended periods.

• Proficiency in English and Georgian languages at a working level.
