From nothing to 8,761 vacancies, and now on Mac and Android

On 4 August there was nothing on the board. Seven weeks later findjobs.ge carries 8,761 live vacancies from 3,084 companies, 23,250 people used it in the last thirty days, and alongside the website it now runs as a native app on the iPhone, the Mac and Android.

01 The month, measured

Thirty days ago this was a board a few hundred people read each day. The chart below is not smoothed and not trimmed to flatter: it is every full day Cloudflare measured, pulled from the same open endpoint anybody can read.

The line moves for reasons we can name. Vacancy pages began to rank in search, so people arrived looking for one job and found the whole board. The Telegram channels carried every new listing the minute it appeared. And on 14 September a single day brought 8,262 people, the busiest the site has had.

02 What people did with it

Traffic on its own is a vanity number. The question worth asking is whether anything happened once people were here.

03 The Mac app, in beta

This is a real Mac application, not a website in a frame. It has a proper window with a list and a reading pane, it keeps working with its window closed, and it lives in the menu bar so there is always a way back to it.

It is signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, which is what lets it open without a warning, and the SHA-256 of the disk image is printed next to the download so the file can be checked before it is opened.

04 The Android app, in beta

Written natively for Android rather than ported, and it now does the things a phone is supposed to do: it notifies you when an application lands, a tapped notification opens the exact thread it is about, and a link to a vacancy opens in the app instead of the browser.

Sign-in accepts the passkey from your Google Password Manager, so there is no password to type on a phone keyboard. The APK comes straight from us, and both its SHA-256 and the fingerprint of the key it is signed with are published, with the commands to check them.

05 Windows and Ubuntu are next

Most desks in Georgia are Windows desks, and a good number of the people who post developer roles here are on Ubuntu. Both are being built, and neither has a date yet. We would rather name one late than name one now and miss it.

06 Pro, and what changes tomorrow

Pro opened to employers on 8 September. Posting a vacancy is free and stays free; Pro is for the employers who want the extra reach, the contact channels on their listings, and the talent pool.
